The pneumatic injection of carbon or slag forming agents into the electric arc furnace (EAF) has grown a big role in the last few years in more and more steel plants. The multi-point injection has been the favored process, at which the injection is done via injection lances at the side walls and/or the manipulator. This process was initially developed and patented by STEIN.
The multipoint injection of following bulk material has been proved as very effective:
- Carbon injection for realizing a foaming slag practice
- Injection of carbon-substitutes like polymer for realizing a foaming slag practice
- Dolomite lime injection for protection of the refractory material in the hot spot areas
- Lime injection as a slag forming agent
- DRI-Fines injection
- granulated white slag
- dry bulk material of any kind
Benefits:
- Faster reaction of the injected bulk material with the melt/slag inside the furnace
- Optimized distribution of the bulk material inside the furnace
- Minimized risks of skull formation or cold zones
- Savings of material and energy in comparison to existing addition processes
- Cost reduction
With just one injection system from STEIN, bulk materials can be conveyed to the electric arc furnace via up to four conveyor lines. Depending on the desired application, the injection process can be carried out via side wall lances and/or the manipulator on the slag door.
STEIN injection systems key advantages:
- Anti-clogging system
- One system can supply up to four injection points
- Metered charging of the bulk material into the furnace
- Integrated regulating and control valves for feed media and bulk material
- Low operating and maintenance costs
- Precise dosing of the bulk material to be injected
- Complete automation possible through stand-alone control or integration into the furnace control system
